Since the Brompton's birth over thirty years ago, it has become recognised as the cream of folding cycles. All Bromptons are designed and built in the factory in West London, England. Brompton is one of only two major frame manufacturers still based in the UK, and has been in full production since 1988. The company has come a long way since its initial production facility in a railway arch, and the current site occupies 22,000 sqft; you can read more about the Brompton's history here.
The Brompton’s inventor, Andrew Ritchie, continues to act as Managing Director and the company remains in private hands. Private ownership has played a big part in making Brompton successful as they have always been able to focus solely on the bike, never the demands of corporate shareholders.
Today, Bromptons are sold in 27 export markets. In the UK and USA, they are sold only by carefully-selected bicycle retailers; in other territories, they are sold to distributors who operate their own dealer networks.
Take a look at the video below to see Andrew Ritchie himself demonstrate the ease and efficiency of the Brompton's trademark folding system, or click here to check out the bikes themselves.
